The partner of former senator Edgardo Kueider, Iara Guinsel, expressed interest in purchasing six apartments in Paraguay for a total of 460 thousand dollars. However, the transaction did not materialize but was recorded in the country’s suspicious operations reports. Kueider and Guinsel were arrested in December for attempted smuggling after trying to enter Ciudad del Este from Brazil with 211 thousand dollars in cash. They are currently under house arrest.
The company Golsur SA, which includes the same members Cousirat and Torales, informed Paraguayan authorities about all payments made between April and July. Investigators are trying to determine if this financial movement was a strategy to conceal the true owner, suspecting it could be former senator Kueider. Guinsel, for her part, had made a cash deposit of 122 thousand dollars in April as part of the purchase of the properties, which did not come to completion.
Businessman Carlos Guasti stated that he was offered to acquire at least five apartments in Paraguay, but the operation failed due to the inability to find a corporation that could act as an intermediary. It is noted that when attempting to make a cash purchase in Paraguay, a system of alerts for suspicious operations is activated, which led to an investigation in the South American country.
The fact that Guinsel was not in Paraguay at the time she was supposedly refunded the money drew the attention of investigators, as immigration records show that the woman left the country in June and returned in October. The most significant payments of the failed operation were made in June, shortly after the Bases Law was enacted in Paraguay.
The attempt to purchase the apartments was interrupted due to the lack of documentation required by the company Innova, which led to the signing of a termination contract in September. The investigation into this case continues in the Paraguayan judiciary, evaluating all details of this suspicious operation that links Kueider's partner with irregular financial transactions.
